In a recent interview, Tom Homan, the Trump administration’s border czar, announced a significant decrease in illegal border crossings since President Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025. Homan stated that crossings have dropped by 93%, attributing this decline to the administration’s stringent border security measures.
Homan emphasized the administration’s commitment to national security, stating, “President Trump is the game changer. No one has had the success he’s had on securing the border.”
The administration’s approach includes deploying additional troops to the southern border and conducting nationwide immigration raids. Within the first week of these initiatives, over 7,300 illegal immigrants were arrested, with 1,179 detained on a single day. Homan declared, “Our border is closed,” and vowed to continue daily deportations until millions of illegal immigrants are expelled from the country.
Despite these efforts, Homan acknowledged that more work remains to be done to ensure border security. He reiterated the administration’s stance that anyone in the country illegally is subject to deportation, emphasizing that “no one’s off the table.”
Homan also criticized the previous administration’s handling of border security, suggesting that the significant reduction in illegal crossings achieved under President Trump could have been accomplished earlier. He implied that the Biden administration had the opportunity to implement similar measures but failed to do so.
These developments mark a significant shift in U.S. immigration policy, reflecting the administration’s focus on stringent enforcement and border security.
